The Desolate Place
“And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed.” (Mark 1:35)
In our passage from Sunday, we see Jesus’ need for time alone with God. His ministry was growing at overwhelming levels, the needs of the needy were increasing in pressure, so Jesus withdrew to a desolate place to spend the morning with His Father.
Below is a great post by J.A. Medders on the case for morning devotions (the point is not on the time of day, but on time intentionally spent alone with God). I commend it to you.
(Medders’ Substack page '“Spiritual Theology” is a great resource in general, and I would encourage you to check out his other posts)
Another great resource is this article: An Hour of Personal Worship.
“And Jesus said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.” For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat.” (Mark 6:31)
