“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given…” (Isaiah 9:6)
It’s week 2 of Advent! This week’s emphasis is on Peace. Here’s a family worship guide to help you celebrate.
Week 2 - Peace (Family Worship Guide)
Read: As we think about the Advent of Peace, we’ll hear the prophecy of Isaiah, that the Son of God would come as the Prince of Peace who would bring a never-ending increase of peace into our fallen and chaotic world. We’ll see the fulfillment of the prophet’s words in the skies over Bethlehem, as a heavenly army sings of the newborn King who will bring true peace on earth between God and man. So let’s rejoice together that through the gospel we can have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ!
Read the following passages:
Isaiah 9:6-7
Luke 2:8-14
Watch this short video together:
Ask the following questions:
What were some of the titles that Isaiah gave to the coming Messiah? What does that tell us about Jesus?
What comes to your mind when you hear the word “Peace”? What does the bible mean by that word?
How does Jesus bring peace between God and people?
Pray (spend some time praying together)
Sing (close with a song, either the one below or another Christmas carol!):
Resources for Advent
The first post for Advent had a list of recommended resources (you can find it here). I wanted to share one more resource, which is the book that was handed out at church on Sunday.
Gospel Meditations for Christmas
“Christmas, rightly understood, is about the incarnation. God becoming man in the person of Jesus Christ is one of the epic events of human history. The incarnation is no less essential to the Christian faith than the crucifixion or the resurrection. Series authors Chris Anderson and Joe Tyrpak are joined by Dr. Michael Barrett to bring you 31 daily readings that are theological, devotional, and practical. They will help you move beyond the mere nostalgia of Christmas and worship the Lord Jesus—the Word made flesh!”
“For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” (Luke 2:11)
