God Is Able
“Now to him who is able…” (Ephesians 4:20)
In Matthew 9:28-29 we’re given this interaction between Jesus and two blind men:
“When he entered the house, the blind men came to him, and Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” They said to him, “Yes, Lord.” Then he touched their eyes, saying, “According to your faith be it done to you.””
Jesus wasn’t just asking that question to the two blind men. He was asking to everyone. He’s still asking it to each one of us.
Do we believe that Jesus is able? Does He have the ability to help us? Is He competent? Is He qualified? Does He have the skills necessary for us to trust Him, fully and completely?
Those are faith-probing questions. But what an encouragement it is that the bible gives so many faith-building promises!
Have you ever noticed all the “ables” of scripture? All the times where we’re promised that God is able? Here’s just a sample. Prayerfully and reflectively read through these verses, and rejoice that your God is able!
God Is Able…
To do more than you can think.
“Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.” (Ephesians 3:20-21)
To help when you are tempted.
“…because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.” (Hebrews 2:18)
To save you to the uttermost.
“Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.” (Hebrews 7:25)
To give you grace.
“God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.” (2 Corinthians 9:8)
To guard you.
“…I am convinced that he is able to guard until that day what has been entrusted to me.” (2 Timothy 1:12)
To humble you.
“…those who walk in pride he is able to humble.” (Daniel 4:37)
To uphold you.
“It is before his own master that he stands or falls. And he will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make him stand.” (Romans 14:4)
To strengthen you.
“Now to him who is able to strengthen you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ…” (Romans 16:25)
To keep you from stumbling.
“Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy…” (Jude vs. 24)
Church, remember, your God is able to fulfill every promise of His word! Trust Him today!
“The Lord is able to give you much more than this.” (2 Chronicles 25:9)
